The Impact of Airline Deregulation on Costs and Efficiency

  • Chapter

Abstract

In assessing the impact of deregulation on costs and efficiency in the airline industry it is necessary to analyze what airline costs look like. in this short paper a brief analysis of airline costs will be presented and the effects of deregulation on these costs assessed. the analysis will be broad, rather than specific, and thus the conclusions will be merely predictive and suggestive of the effects of deregulation on an individual firm. the goal of this paper is to present general trends in airline costs and efficiency. As such, cost study methodology is not presented and exact comparisons of airlines (or groups of airlines) are not carried out.
