Abstract
The Lubbock Housing Authority and Texas Tech University College of Human Sciences have undertaken a collaborative effort to utilize the expertise and resources of both entities to help families in subsidized housing move toward self-sufficiency. One way to do this is to provide parent education and support to parents of children from birth to three years of age so that these children enter school with optimal growth in cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical development which are critical to their success. Recent research has indicated that the first three years are crucial in the development of the brain, and that experiences during this period are quite influential in determining the future success of children in school and in life (Shore, 1997).
