Abstract
The collaboration described in this chapter involves two organizations, the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) School of Family and Consumer Sciences (SFCS) and the Wood, Seneca, Ottawa, and Sandusky Counties Community Action Commission (WSOS). This partnership between a public university and a nonprofit community action commission has matured over the past four and one-half years. The SFCS mission emphasizes a multi- and interdisciplinary perspective as essential to understanding the development of individuals, families, and communities in complex human ecological systems. The development of on- and off-campus collaborations and partnerships to address issues of importance to children, youth, and families is a major feature of the SFCS mission. Similarly, WSOS actively develops and engages in partnerships with other non-profit and private sector entities. WSOS serves over 1250 children and operates 21 centers in four counties, and has a 33-year history of providing comprehensive services to low income families and individuals. Since its inception WSOS has been a grantee for the Head Start Program.
