Abstract
In the popular baseball movie, Field of Dreams, the character played by Kevin Costner hears a voice urging, “Build it and they will come . . . ” Although the purpose behind the message was unclear, he knew he should begin by building a baseball field on his Iowa farm. A similar situation occurred in Birmingham, Alabama in 1994, except that the cast of characters was different, and instead of a baseball field, the vision was a community-university partnership to build a world-class child care center.
