The Study of SF6 Mixtures with Buffer Gases

  • Chapter
Gaseous Dielectrics VIII

Abstract

Because of its outstanding electrical and physical properties, SF6 has gained wide acceptance as the dielectric of choice for high voltage applications. However, the relative high cost of SF6 and other drawbacks, such as its sensitivity to particle effects and restricted working temperature range had limited its application. Moreover, the recent issue on SF6over its environmental concern1 has made the wide use of the gas in the future much in doubt.
