Abstract
This chapter is devoted to general theoretical considerations and the basic equations describing the variation in polarization moments of atomic ensembles due to collisions with foreign atoms. The problem of the collisional variation of polarization moments is treated in terms of relaxation matrix (3.8.10) for low relative velocities. For high relative velocities, this problem is reduced to the determination of the matrix of cross sections of the collisional creation of momenta ordering.
