Abstract
The chapters in this handbook give a sense of the high quality of theory, clinical practice, and research in the field of intervention with children and families today. After reviewing the chapters, we think that the trends in the field that we identified in the Preface and in Chapter 1 will continue and will be strong directions for research and practice in the future. Those trends were (1) the use of a developmental framework, (2) research on empirically supported treatments, (3) focus on specific problems and populations, (4) integration of treatment approaches, and (5) importance of situational and contextual factors in planning and implementing interventions. What follows are our observations about each of these trends and their future.
