Abstract

The genus Buddleja (sometimes written as Buddleia) was named by Linnaeus after the English botanist Adam Buddle who lived in the 18th century. It is the largest genus in a taxon classed either as a separate family, the Buddlejaceae, or as tribe, the Buddlejeae, within the Loganiaceae.1 The former position is that adopted by modern taxonomists such as Hutchinson.2
