Abstract
PCBs represent a large group of toxic environmental chemicals. In the world, the global estimation of water and soil polluted by PCBs is about 400 000 tons, with 60% in sea water and 40% in soils and sediments (TANABE 1988). The main characteristic of these compounds is their chemical stability and non-reactivity (GERVASON 1987).
