Abstract
The use of a simplified frame structure has been proposed for fast burst synchronization in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. A shorter synchronization symbol and a Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) algorithm is exploited to estimate the frame starting position. Turbo codes are incorporated in the system to enhance the performance at very low symbol error rates (SER). The performance of the simplified frame is confirmed, by means of simulation, for coherent QPSK systems.
