Abstract

For future mobile communication systems, multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) and its variants are interesting alternatives to methods based on singlecarrier (SC) on one hand and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) on the other. In general, the physical mobile radio channel is characterized by time-varying multipath propagation corresponding to time-varying frequency-selective transfer functions. As a consequence one has to take into account, that parts of a received signal might be faded out in frequency and/or time. Frequency and time diversity can help in this situation and there are two different ways to achieve this: Spreading and coding. Also combinations of these two basic approaches are possible.
