Abstract
Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is perhaps one of the most prominent mentoring stories in literature. Jim is a surrogate father to Huck as they travel the Mississippi. They form a bond that is mutually supportive and protective. Jim is running from slavery and Huck is escaping from his abusive father and from a civilization that is unappreciative of his spirit. Jim is loving, nurturing, and respectful toward Huck.
