Abstract
The ER/EER model, as described in Chapter 2, plays an important role in conceptual data modeling. The concepts represented in the model are higher-level data concepts that are not only meant to reflect the contents of data (e.g., attribute values), but mainly the semantics or meaning of data in terms of structures, constraints and relationships. In this sense, the ER/EER model is usually referred to as a conceptual model or semantic model that describes the conceptual aspects of data in the real world situation of concern.
