Abstract
I appreciate the opportunity to share some of my thoughts concerning education. To put it bluntly, Texas is in big trouble. Our state generates some $300 billion in goods and services each year, creating the 10th-largest economy in the world. Yet one out of every three Texans may not be able to read or write well enough to hold a meaningful job in our state.
