Abstract

Abnormalities of immune function occur in hemophilic patients independently of HIV infection [1-3]. These abnormalities arise as a result of the treatment, since untreated hemophiliacs are unaffected. These defects develop during childhood and adolescence [4,5] but remain stable over long periods in adult life. Although abnormalities of almost every aspect of immune function have been described in treated hemophiliacs,they are milder than the immune defects observed in AIDS and are not associated with opportunist infection.
