Abstract
What causes anything to move as it does? This is one of the most fundamental questions of physics, and the science of dynamics has been developed to deal with it; this chapter is an introduction to that subject. In this area our thinking has been shaped almost entirely by one man, Sir Isaac Newton (1642–1727).
