Operation of thin Film Dc-Squids Made of High-Tc Superconductors

Abstract

Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) seem to be one of the most probable early applications of high temperature superconductivity. Many reported devices operate at 77 K [1,2,3,4] and noise measurements made on high-Tc dc-SQUIDs demonstrate that the sensitivity is not so far from that of commercially available helium temperature SQUIDs. However further technological developments are required to make this sensitivity useful for real applications. In particular, practical devices will need well controlled Josephson elements and well matched input transformers for coupling to useful signals.
