Abstract
The nature and number of events involved in the origin of cancer has been a subject of inquiry for many years. Ideas bearing on this subject derive from several sources, including human cancer incidences, experimental carcinogenesis in animals, hereditary cancer, and molecular genetic studies on cancers of both animals and humans. It is now appropriate to compare these ideas in an effort to understand the process of carcinogenesis.
