Abstract

Rare gas atoms in their lowest excited levels often exhibit interesting properties mainly due to their high electronic energy and long lifetime. The electronic energy ranges from 19.82 eV for the He atom in the 23S state to 8.32 eV of the Xe atom in the 3P2 state, while the lifetime ranges from 4.2x103 s for the former atom to 149.5 s for the latter.
