Abstract
In recent years there has been an increase in the number of studies which have examined the growth of vascular endothelial cells. A major reason for this interest stems from the clinical data which shows that vascular prostheses are rarely endothelialized (1–5), and perhaps this fact alone is responsible for the occlusion of many grafts. There is also concern as to whether arteries subjected to angioplasty ever achieve total re-endothelialization. This chapter will deal with aspects controlling endothelial cell growth with a particular emphasis on growth of these cells in vivo.
