Abstract
To study the effect of manufacturing errors on the field quality of the SSC dipole magnets, a two dimensional model of a 50 mm bore design was generated, and the sensitivities of the magnetic field multipole coefficients to various conductor placement errors were evaluated. PE2D was used to model the cross section of the magnet and to perform the sensitivity analysis. The model consists of superconductor, collar and iron yoke. The non-linear magnetization in the iron yoke was included in the analysis. The mechanical errors considered were simulated by varying the positions of the conductor blocks. The effect of the manufacturing tolerances was analyzed at both low field (injection mode) and high field (normal operation mode). Results from this type of analysis will be directed towards statistical process control for coil winding.
