Quantum Optic and Transient Effects of Excitonic Polaritons, and Properties of Phonoritons

  • Chapter
Book cover Laser Optics of Condensed Matter

Abstract

The following topics are briefly reviewed: Demonstration that polaritons are intrinsically squeezed, and methods to detect the squeezing: a) use of the crystal-vacuum surface for homodyne processes, and b) two scattering experiments. The Phonoriton — a generalization of the exciton polariton and two non-linear methods to detect it: a) Non-Linear Resonance Scattering and b) Non-Linear Reflectivity; an examination of possible polariton-soliton formation and conclusion that previous treatments omitted a highly singular term, making formation highly unlikely if not impossible.
