Abstract

Many pediatric health care providers are comfortable with infants, children, and parents but are apprehensive at the prospect of evaluating an adolescent. The ability to interview adolescents well is an essential skill for the appropriate evaluation and treatment of adolescent patients. The purpose of this chapter is to present guidelines for interviewing adolescents and suggest practical recommendations for improving the communication process between clinician and teenager.
