Current Stability of Negative Corona Discharges in SF6 and Delayed Spark Breakdown

  • Chapter
Gaseous Dielectrics VI

Abstract

Current stability of negative corona discharges in SF6 is analysed in terms of gas and electrode surface evolution. It is found that the discharge behaviour is predominantly governed by the surface evolution of the high-field electrode and that there is a relation between its initial state and the spark breakdown current, implying the nature of the negative ions produced.
