Part of the book series: Acoustical Imaging ((ACIM,volume 18))

Abstract

With the development of computer technologies, brain imaging itself has entered into a new era with progress in digital reconstruction, including X-ray computed tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography. Each of them has practical drawbacks, for example, lack of portability and handling, high cost, and ionizing radiation. These factors restrict routine widespread use of these methods. Thus, other methods such as ultrasound imaging deserve serious consideration.
