Abstract

The loach Misgurnus fossilis L. is widely used in the USSR to study a number of problems of developmental biology, including contemporary biochemical and cytological aspects ([1-3, 6, 8, 9, 13, 14, 17, 25, 30-34, 38, 39, 40, 43, 44, 47- 52, 55-57, 60-65, 69, 71, 72, 75-79, 81-85]; see also reviews [35, 37, 38, 45, 63, 70, 74] and several monographs [22, 28, 36, 58, 66-68] which deal specifically with cytological, biochemical, and molecular-biological studies using this species). A nuclear transplantation method has been developed for the loach by Hung and Gasaryan [20, 26], and several cytological, embryological, and cytochemical investigations were carried out using this method [10,11,16, 20,21, 26, 46]
