Abstract

In the past the term ‘quality control’ was used to encompass all those controllable factors that determined the quality of the product up to the point when it arrived in the hands of the consumer. Later the term ‘quality assurance’ became popular, so much so that it virtually superseded ‘quality control’ in the jargon of most companies. More recently the term ‘total quality management’ has been introduced. Are these terms synonymous or is it possible to differentiate between them?
