Abstract
Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) develop various cardiovascular changes including cerebral hemorrage and/or infarction, nephrosclerosis and cardiac hypertrophy. Hypertension, which is present in 40-80% of patients with long standing diabetes mellitus (1) has been implicated in the development of diabetic cardiac complications. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of diabetes on cardiac hypertrophy in SHR.
