Abstract

Mechanisms promoting the healing of gastric wounds are not known in detail, but reduction in gastric juice acidity or administration of epidermal growth factor (EGF) have been shown to be beneficial. The present work was aimed to investigate if there is any local formation of peptide growth factors in the normal gastric mucosa and, if so, if the corresponding receptors were demonstrable in the gastric mucosa as well as possible changes in their distribution during the healing of experimentally induced wounds. Immunohistochemical methods were mainly used.
