Decrease of Radiation Trapping in a Laser-Produced Plasma with Volume-Reducing Deviations from Cylindrical Geometry

  • Chapter
Book cover Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena

Abstract

In optimizing X-ray laser schemes based on laser-produced plasmas, a precise prediction of the amount of radiation trapping and its influence on the gain is of current interest (cf. 1, 2 | ). The re-absorption of resonance radiation from the lower laser level is known as limiting the gain, primarily by re-populating this level. Especially in experiments demonstrating X-ray lasing in the 3 → 2 transition in H-like ions, the reduction of the Balmer-Ʊ gain by trapping, of the Lyman-α line is to study.
