Abstract

The laser program at China Academy of Engineering Physics has made remarkable progress in ICF and x-ray laser research during the past few years. Hohlraum physics and imploding hydrodynamics have the priority in experimental investigations. Laser—plasma coupling, x-ray conversion and transport, nonlinear instabilities and suprathermal electrons, and fast ions for a variety of target configuration have been studied and neutron productions by indirect drive have been successfully demonstrated- Furthermore, x-ray laser experiments have been focused on pursueing large gain length products for Ne-like germanium 3p-3s transitions and a gl = 14.6 has been achieved with a proposed double-target coupling scheme using the LF-12 two beams irradiating oppositely and synchronously.
