Abstract
This lecture will review a very useful approach that has recently been developed for defining the transverse beam quality as well as other propagation parameters of arbitrary real laser beams. We will also describe a convenient new instrument for measuring the propagation parameters of high-power laser beams, and summarize the results of beam quality measurements made on various types of laser devices.
