Abstract

Since the first demonstration of an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) by Giordmaine and Miller1 in 1965 the OPO has been subject to detailed theoretical and experimental investigations2′3. The OPO is considered as a source of powerful, broadly tunable coherent radiation. The development and the scientific application has been hampered, however, by the scarcity of nonlinear optical materials with suitable optical and mechanical properties.
