Cf-252 Neutron Therapy and Neutron Capture Therapy

  • Chapter
Advances in Neutron Capture Therapy

Abstract

The potential of fast fission neutrons in the treatment of malignant tumors has been studied by Koester et al 1. These studies have been folt, owed by clinical trials of superficial tumor treatment at the Munich research reactor2 and by further studies of possible use of neutron capture reaction (NCT). For clinical trials of fast fission neutron therapy or NCT, nuclear reactors are the best source of neutrons. However, for routine therapy nuclear reactors are too expensive and hazardous to be based in a hospital or in an urban area.
