Abstract

The foundations of genetic epidemiology were discussed several years ago (Morton, 1986), at a time when the field could easily be summarized (Morton, 1982;King et al., 1984). Recent publications have dealt with hearing impairment (Morton, 1991), cancer (Lynch and Tautu, 1991), coronary heart disease (Beam, 1992), and metabolic disease (Tikkanen and Tuomilehto, 1992). Many developments are reflected in the journal Genetic Epidemiology inaugurated in 1984, but most of the literature is in less specialized journals. A review of the past decade is overdue and will be attempted here.
