Abstract
The interacting boson model introduced by Iachello and Arima1,2, has been very successful in describing the low lying collective levels and electromagnetic transition intensities of heavy nuclei. In its simplest version, the IBM-1, the nuclear Hamiltonian is described with few parameters and possesses three physical limits where it is exactly solvable. Even the general IBM-1 Hamiltonian is relatively easy to solve due to the moderate size of its basis.
