Comparison of Langerhans Cells and Interdigitating Reticulum Cells

Abstract

In our previous paper (1, 2) we reported that both OKT-6 and S-100 protein positive cells were observed in superficial and hilar lymph nodes. However, in mesenteric lymph nodes and spleens, only S-100 protein positive and OKT-6 negative cells were found. For immunostaining using OKT-6 and S-100 protein antibodies, mirror sections were used. Immunoelectron microscopy were also undertaken. We concluded that both positive cells were Langerhans cells (LCs), but only S-100 protein positive cells were interdigitating reticulum cells (IDCs). We then tried the double staining method in order to obtain more exact results, namely to prove whether LCs might be positive for both OKT-6 and S-100 protein.
