Abstract
Studies of the normal knee have demonstrated that the hemodynamic impact of joint effusion on the juxtaarticular tissues depends on the anatomical relationship between the joint capsule and the compartment of interest and the level and duration of the effusion pressure. During physiological use the normal intra-articular pressure (LAP) of the joint fluctuates from slightly subatmospheric to markedly negative values (Jayson and Dixon, 1970).
