Abstract
The present book, presented in literary form, represents the results of thirty five years of experience in educational work with profoundly retarded children—idiots and imbeciles. In itself, the experience of pedagogical work is not only of practical, but also of scientific interest, since all education for severely retarded children—and particularly idiots—in its purely practical goals becomes a psychological and pedagogical experiment independent of its author’s intentions. A history of the education for severely retarded children, therefore, adds a large and valued contribution to general knowledge about child development and about many psychological problems.
