Abstract
Analog very large-scale integrated (VLSI) circuit technology is emerging as a scientific tool for understanding brain-style computation through the synthesis of working systems. With this tool, scientists are evolving a new kind of computer, as well as a more precise understanding of the principles of computation used in biological systems [65].
