Abstract
With the move towards psychiatric subspecialization occurring over the past few years, there has been rapid parallel developments in both the fields of consultation -liaison psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. Recently, the field of addiction psychiatry was approved for added qualifications certification status, and the first certification examination was administered March 1993. During the 1992-93 academic year, there were 46 active fellowships in addiction psychiatry, with a total of 170 trainees currently enrolled in programs(1).
