Substance P Inhibits Ventilation in the Goat

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 360))

Abstract

Substance P (SP) has been established as an excitatory neuromodulator in the cat carotid body (CB) (Prabhakar et al., 1987; 1989). These workers have suggested that SP may be an important link between the transduction mechanism for hypoxia and the production of afferent neural discharge.
