Abstract
PCR has been used to detect Toxoplasma-DNA in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL) of patients with suspected Toxoplasmosis. Müller et al (1989) could differentiate three groups of patients with circulating Toxoplasma-Antigen (cTgA) in serum samples:
-
1
Patients with positive detection of cTgA in serum samples over a long period, but without detectable Toxoplasma-specific antibody as tested by Immunfluorescence antibody test (IFAT), Direct agglutination (DA), ISAGA, Toxo-IgM-EIA.
-
2
Patients with positive detection of cTgA in serum samples for a long period and with low IgG titers (IFAT-IgG 16–256).
-
3
Patients with positive detection of cTgA in serum samples and with increased antibody titers (IFAT-IgG >1000, Toxo- IgM-EIA or IFAT-IgM positive).
