111In Antifibrin Monoclonal Antibodies in the Evaluation of the Deep Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Limbs: An Italian Multicenter Study

From January 1987 and December 1988, a multicenter study has been conducted in Italy by six Nuclear Medicine Departments, in order to establish the value of 111In-labeled antifibrin monoclonal antibody 59D8 (Fibriscint, Centocor) for the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs. This antibody (a Fab fragment obtained by a murine hybridoma) is highly specific for a defined epitope of the beta chain of human fibrin, and does not cross-react with fibrinogen1.
