Abstract

The factors in the user profile (Chapter 3, Fig. 3.2) include user interest in one or more computer-based application(s). Prior to designing an application-specific interface, the designer should know how the application has been and can be carried out, preferably both with and without a computer. A good understanding of the target application and how to deal with it successfully is contingent on familiarity with computer-based applications in general. The latter will enable more insightful comparisons and decision-making by the HCI designer.
