Abstract
Joint manifestations of Lyme Disease are the rule in the United States of America, but seem to be the exception in the United Kingdom. One report from southern England documented a patient who developed a monoarthritis within 72 hours of a tick bite, a more generalised arthropathy evolving 2 weeks later when erythema ehronicum migrans (ECM) was still present (1). Sixty eight patients were identified as seropositive for Borrelia burgdorferi out of a total of 431 sera tested in a reference laboratory; of these seropositive patients only one reported joint symptoms (2) which took the form of a symmetrical polyarthritis and which resolved without antibaeterial therapy.
