Abstract

The data shown in Figure 35 represent solutions to the following equation:
$$ \Gamma \left( \theta \right) = \tfrac{{2{J_t}\left( {\tfrac{{\pi d}}{\lambda }\sin \alpha } \right)}}{{\tfrac{{\pi d}}{\lambda }\sin \alpha }} $$

where J1 represents a Bessel function of the first order, d is the diameter of the piston, λ is the wavelength, and α is the off-axis angle of measurement. Diameter and wavelength must be expressed in the same units.
