Abstract

The goal of adjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of carcinomas is improved survival for patients treated with local therapy. It has been shown that adjuvant chemotherapy improves survival in a variety of animal models and in humans with breast cancer, osteosarcoma, or colorectal cancer. The central hypothesis is that chemotherapy eradicates micrometastatic or residual local disease early on.
