Abstract

Quality of life is important for humans regardless of their age. Yet, quality of life in older persons deserves special attention. The quality of older persons’ lives is more often compromised than that of younger persons, because changes are more likely to occur in their health and in their social world. Although a change may mean an opportunity to improve quality of life, most changes in older age can be expected to constitute losses rather than gains (Heckhausen et al., 1989).
