Abstract
Conditionally immortal mammary cell lines are being derived to provide an in vitro model system for studying mammary gland growth, differentiation and apoptosis. The approach being adopted utilises transgenic mice harbouring an enhancerless temperature sensitive SV40 T-antigen (tsA58) gene construct driven by the milk protein promoter ß-lactoglobulin (BLG) as the source of mammary cells. The expectation was that expression of the immortalising agent T antigen would be limited to the secretory epithelial cells of the mammary gland.
